Subjects Taught

I graduated from James B. Hunt Jr. Sr High school here in Wilson in 1994. In 1998, I graduated as a part of the first graduating class from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Sociology.  I have received my National Board certification.

This is my 20th year of teaching.  I began my teaching career in Johnston County at West Clayton Elementary as a first grade teacher.  After 3 years, I returned home to Wilson County Schools.  I began in Wilson at Elm City Elementary as a first grade teacher.  Then finally made my way home to Lucama after two years.  I taught first grade for 4 years, then I was promoted (I passed my grade:) up to the third grade.  I taught third grade for one year and was promoted again.  I have been in the fifth grade ever since.  I have gone from teaching all fifth grade subjects, to just teaching science, and am now the fifth grade math teacher.

I enjoy my job, but when I am at home I am very busy also.  I have three children;  Bryson, who is a freshman in the Agriculture Department at NC State University, Blake, who is a senior at Hunt, and Sarai, who is a sixth grader at Springfield.  I have 2 dogs; Dakota and Zoe, and a sugarglider named Sugarsmacks.  My kids keep me busy with wrestling matches, cross country meets and cheerleading.  I am always on the go.  I attend church in Sharpsburg at Sharpsburg Baptist church on a regular basis.  My husband, Donald, owns his own remodeling, maintenance, and repair business.  I am kept very busy when I am away from school.
